Immerse yourself in the Experience
Travel for Baby Boomers is often about taking the time to really get to know a place and time for yourself. Many Boomers have found that this method of travel can add up to a more enriching experience than hopping from place to place. Its tempting to see as much as you can in the limited time you have, but do you really see things? Baby Boomers Making Travel PlansThere are different ways you can plan a trip like this whether you are single, have a traveling partner, or prefer groups: Firstly, research the places and/or region you would like to go to either on your internet at home, work or at the local library. A travel agent could also help with this but before you book, you want to be sure its the right place/region for you to spend a length of time in. Ask other people you know if they know someone who has spent time in the region or go to online chat rooms on reputable websites to see what others think. Secondly, look at your budget, time of year you'd like to travel and if you want to venture alone or with others. Leave plenty of time for planning to get the most out of this trip and 12 months prior wouldn't be unrealistic to ensure the experience goes well for you. Thirdly, decide if this is a trip you want to book yourself or use a travel agent to put together an itinerary and prices. The more complex the travel arrangements and depending on how fussy you are, it may be better to use a licensed agent and let them worry about the details. Most agents use country and/or region specialists who have an intimate understanding and contacts in the area. Types of in-depth travel experiences There are endless possibilites but they essentially boil down to the following types of travel experiences: - Exploring one or two regions of a country (i.e. Croatia, Peru, China, Northern Italy, South Island of New Zealand etc.) - Living for a period of time in a village, town or city (i.e a medieval town, mountain village, regional city) - A themed experience within a country or region (i.e.visiting historical sites, touring exhibition gardens, Art Galleries etc.) - Using a certain mode or routes of transport to move arond a country or region as part of the experience (i.e. trains, canal boats, bicycling on paths, walking paths etc.) - Learning a language or taking an educational course at a local adult education school within a country, basing you in a town or city for the duration of the course - Working in a town, city or region as a way of getting to know other people and traditions (i.e teaching English, building houses for humanaity in Africa etc.) - Visiting a friend or relatives and staying with them or close by in a place you haven't been to before We'll leave your imagination to run its course and create an expereince where you really do see things and smell the roses.
