Managing your health

  • Managing your health to maintain your physical and mental wellbeing is important to prevent and reduce the degree of symptoms experienced as a result of arthritis, so preventative health is important to you. 

  • Take a moment to consider the risk factors for arthritis – age, diet, level of physical activity, family history and lifestyle

  • Talk to your Doctor and seek information about arthritis and any changes you need to make to your lifestyle to prevent and/or reduce the impact of symptoms for arthritis

  • Consider increasing the amount of exercise you do, including a mixture of strengthening, mobility and fitness exercises


 Baby Boomers and Arthritis

  • It is estimated that one in five Australians currently live with Arthritis and as the population ages it is estimated that by 2050 there will be 7 million Australians living with Arthritis.

  • Arthritis is an umbrella term for over 100 medical conditions that affect the bodies' musculoskeletal system. The three most common forms of arthritis are osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and gout.

What can I do?
  • If you are suffering from arthritic pain, see your Doctor so that it can be accurately diagnosed and you can discuss your options with them

  • Early intervention can reduce or delay arthritis and improve quality of life

  • Research has suggested that exercise is one of the most effective treatments for arthritis, a mixture of strengthening, mobility and fitness exercises

  • There has been some evidence that medical supplements such as glucosamine may help in reducing arthritic pain and swelling
