Managing your health
  • One third of adults with type 2 diabetes are unaware that they have it according to health peak bodies

  • Take a moment to consider the risk factors for Type 2 Diabetes - age, diet, physical shape, family history and lifestyle.

  • The early diagnosis of diabetes could make a difference in how the chronic disease is treated and the potential effect on your life.

  • See your Doctor and discuss what changes you could make to reduce your risk of developing type 2 Diabetes. 

 

Baby Boomers and Diabetes

  • Diabetes is Australia’s fastest growing chronic disease but it is estimated that up to 60% of cases of type two diabetes can be prevented through changes in lifestyle, diet and exercise.
  • For Australia’s Baby boomers, type two diabetes is fast becoming a significant health phenonamen which could be managed with good advice if picked up early enough.

 

What can I do?
  • If you are concerned or have questions see your doctor, they can talk you through type two Diabetes, discuss your risk and work out what you can do to be pro-active in your health management and the fight against Diabetes.

  • Increase your level of physical activity to at least 30 minutes  a day

  • Limit your alcohol intake and if you smoke, quit

  • Assess your diet and increase the amount of fruit  to two serves and vegetables to five serves per day.

  • Call an information line such as the Diabetes Australia information line or visit the national Diabetes site, and/ or your states Diabetes website
