BB Fact Sheet – Recreation - Cricket

Why Cricket?
  • Play Cricket and help to improve your fitness.
  • Cricket gives you the opportunity to develop and maintain your skills.
  • Get outside and enjoy the game with new or old friends.
  • Make a difference in your community by volunteering at the local cricket club.

Baby Boomers and Cricket
  • Baby Boomers live many different lifestyles, and Cricket can fit in anywhere: in the park, on the beach, indoor clubs, at the community oval, corporate clubs, or even following games on television and on the Internet.
  • Cricket is a low-impact sport, which makes it easier on your body, and a fun addition to your Preventative Health strategy. You can invest as much or as little money as you like into it – it doesn’t have to be expensive.

Getting started
  • Don’t put it off, start now! All you need is some comfortable clothes, shoes, a bat and ball and you’re set to start! Contact the local Cricket Club and join a new group.
  • Cricket is a fun, active game than can be enjoyed by you, your family and your friends. It can be played socially or at various levels of competition. There’s more to Cricket than just playing – you can be involved in scoring, umpiring, coaching, or even in running a canteen for a community club. And if it’s too hot to play, there’s often a match on television you can watch instead.
  • Most communities have a club, so contact your local council or sporting group for information. There are often age and/or gender specific teams, so you can play with your own demographic. Cricket Australia is a good starting point too.
  • It’s great to join a group with a friend, or start your own casual sessions (you’ll need a bat and a ball for this – a tennis ball works fine).
