BB Fact Sheet – Recreation – Fitness Workouts

Why workout?
  • Fitness workouts at the gym, the local community centre, or your home help to improve your fitness and overall wellbeing.
  • Maintain and improve your flexibility and strength.
  • Spend some ‘me’ time energising yourself, or take it up with a friend. You may even benefit from hiring a personal trainer for a period of time to get you started.
  • Meet new people and learn new skills by joining a fitness group or club in your local area.

Baby Boomers and Aerobic Exercise
  • The health benefits of aerobics and fitness workouts make it attractive to the Baby Boomer population. With many different levels to choose from, there’s something that suits everybody, and can be a great addition to your Preventative Health strategy.
  • The many fitness centres in each major city and region means fitness workout classes are easy to access, or you can use a video in the comfort of your own home.

Getting started
  • Don’t put it off, start now! All you need are some comfortable clothes, running shoes, and a water bottle and you’re set to get moving!
  • Most gyms run aerobic fitness sessions – talk to your local fitness club, or ask a friend who already goes. You should also talk to your doctor about what fitness level is right for you.
  • Fitness workouts can help to keep your heart healthy and strong, plus improves your lung activity. This kind of exercise can improve not only your physical well-being, but also your state of mind.
  • The different fitness levels targeted means there’s something for everyone, and it’s easy to get started with many available facilities within communities or simply a video in your home (or a friend’s!).
