BB Fact Sheet – Recreation - Golf

Why Golf?
  • Play Golf and help to improve your fitness.
  • Enjoy the benefit of playing a round of golf with friends and others.
  • Play in a group or by yourself, socially or competitively – it’s up to you.
  • Golf is played widely throughout Australia and in many other countries – you can take it anywhere.

Baby Boomers and Golf
  • Golf doesn’t require a lot of fitness or mobility, so it’s a sport you can take up now and keep playing the rest of your life which is why it is attractive to Baby Boomers who are into Preventative Health.
  • Golf can be played individually or with friends – it’s your decision how you want to spend your time on the course.

Getting started
  • Don’t put it off, start now! Golf clubs usually have equipment you can borrow, so all you need to do to get started is call a course.
  • Enquire about beginners’ sessions and equipment hire, as well as any rules on what clothes to wear and what shoes (some golf courses have dress codes).
  • You can play Golf in any weather, but if you think it’s going to rain on the day, take a coat, and if it’s sunny, wear a hat. Golfers spend a lot of time outdoors.
  • There are many different courses around to play on, and because golf is so affected by external variables (e.g. the wind, how wet the ground is), no two rounds are the same. There are new challenges every time you play.
  • The ‘handicapping’ system used in golf means that you have a chance of winning every game, no matter who you’re playing.
